I assume that once you have a Motorola Capacity Plus system, only Motorola subscriber units can be used. Are there any other non-Motorola manufacturers making anything similar to Capacity Plus?

Thank you very much for the reply. The more I read about Hytera, the more I like. And I say that both as an amateur radio operator and a commercial land mobile radio user.

I have some follow up questions. My wife and oldest son both work for a nearby school district that uses Capacity Plus.

-What do I need to program a MOTO TRBO radio to follow this system? Are the frequencies, color codes, and time slots enough, or do I need other information?

-Can this be configured as RECEIVE ONLY or isn't that a choice in the CPS?

-Is there a way to monitor the PRIVATE CALLS on the system?

-Can I scan across the school district system and a nearby amateur radio system?

You can monitor a Capacity Plus system with a Moto radio as long as the radio has the Capacity plus feature either enabled (some radios have it free) or purchased if its not free.
If you do have a radio with it, and your familiar with standard DMR, the only additional steps needed are to program a channel pool. You need to know the logical order for this.
Then you create a Capacity Plus Voice Pool, then create a Capacity Plus Personality. (before all that is making the Capacity Plus Contacts and RX Groups, do these just like a normal DMR type but its under its own heading in the software).
When you create the Capacity Plus personality you have the option there to select RX only. IT works well.
