If posting about a radio issue: Include the HOST, DSP and UCM/secure firmware versions, flashcode and CPS version you're using along with the operating system info. This is critical information.
Is there a trbo radio one would suggest for marine/boat use? I know some other brands can transmit and integrate with garmin to plot GPS coordinates as well
Unless I am mistaken none of the Motorola mobiles that have GPS built-in output the necessary NMEA format GPS messages needed to integrate with marine equipment. GPS sensors are so cheap today that this shouldn't be an issue.
To my best knowledge, this is/has already been done with a number GPS enabled Motorola radio types. The NMEA data is not really required, but is calculable from the Motorola data.
The fun part is - integrating it with other nautical services.
Please feel free to PM me.
Does it really even matter if the radio has GPS, since it could pull the information from the Garmin unit itself? I've got a Garmin 541 currently. For instance my friends boat, when he radios another guy with a similar setup, his location shows up on the other guys GPS. I guess this is DSC feature of the radio making it possible?
IMO - it's no good just pulling the data from a 3rd Party GPS - if you don't have some way to feed that position into your radio and then transmitting it to the "other" radio.
Maybe I'm missing something here - as I believe that the GPS is integrated into /V\ radio purely for that purpose.
Would your application be for "open water" or "inland waterways" ?
In either case the receiving side would be a base station radio and for the application - most probably a laptop (depending on the size of your craft or if you're using a landlocked base).
cheers
