Hi,
I work for a company that has a fleet of vehicles fitted with Mototrbo DMR non display radios.
The Company has had the system setup so that the operational vehicles can only receive and talk to the base and cannot hear any conversations between other vehicles in the fleet.
The system works O.K from that point of view but we in the workshop are not able to communicate directly with any of the fleet vehicles apart from dispatch ( base )
Our problem is that when a vehicle is having mechanical difficulties and an opinion has to be given as to whether to continue in service or to be sidelined and a replacement vehicle despatched we have to have the despatcher provide the diagnostic details of the fault to us via a private conversation with the driver.
This is not always as easy as it sounds as clues as to what might be wrong don't always get passed back to the workshop and it is difficult to determine what is the best course of action via a third party conversation.
Despatch would rather not have to play detective in these situations and we were wondering if it was possible to be able to modify the Codeplug in our workshop radio so that we could monitor the radio traffic between despatch and the fleet.
We don't need to be able to talk to the entire fleet but being able to hear exactly what the operator is seeing in front of him and not having to rely on the conversation being repeated would save us having to make uninformed guesses and save time when deciding on a course of action.
Our company is open to the idea but the Company that provides the radio transmission facilities says that it is not possible to have a Receive only radio that will hear all fleet radio traffic. They say that because it is a private call setup it is not possible to have another radio " listening in ".
If anyone could give us an opinion as to whether it would be possible to have the above programmed into either our breakdown van handheld or our workshop office mobile and the parts of the codeplug that would need to be modified i would be most appreciative.
