Is alphanumeric paging an option?

Agencies around me have used POCSAG alphanumeric paging for primary alerting for the past 20-25 years.

There are firefighters who weren't born yet when 2-tone paging stopped being a thing.

Not sure I totally understand your question -- Can we send Alpha Numeric (Text) to a MOTOTRBO Radio and have it react with a specific Tone/Vibrate Action. YES.

Can we cause the Radio to Un-Mute, not sure never tried that -- Will have to look at CPS.

Can we send the same text from CAD or a dispatchers console to multiple devices, carriers and services in parallel. YES..

(USA Mobility(Spok), American Messaging, Verizon Cellular, AT&T Cellular, MOTOTRBO, and E-mail) all at once.

We recently had a local FD switch their radio fleet to from analog simplex to TRBO w/repeater. In their case, we kept the legacy analog paging base for their Minitors, and any analog radios they decided to keep for that purpose. We also tied in an XPR base to the analog base via accessory connector, so the Minitors could hear the TRBO dispatch as well.

Bingo!! This is the setup we used here. There was more than enough legacy junk laying around to facilitate this method for decades to come. It also allowed the media and "other" to hear the calls being dispatched via analog scanners, but not necessarily the ability to cruise all of the tac channels or anything.

With the advent of TDMA capable scanners as of the past few weeks, I assume that may lead to an increase in those who no longer care.

Either way, this has been a great way to simply cut out the oft convoluted nature of text/message/email interface associated with DMR which was designed for hospitality workers (where time is not of the essence). By working it into emergency services, it seems a stretch from initial specs.

So we have been doing this for Emergency Services for the better part pf 20 years now. We do both 911 Centers and large multi-jurisdiction Mutual Aid groups.

Text on DMR , Confirmed delivery or Group Messaging is very quick and we move literally, millions of transactions in all sorts of environments monthly utilizing everything from IP Site Connect to Connect Plus, Cap-Max is on the drawing board,

We have one department that wants to get ride of their station radios and alert all of the radios assigned to that station. They really dont want to do text at all. Does your software do group call alert quickly or have another feature that would help them?

We've been slowly replacing the legacy radios with TRBO. So, keeping the old radios isn't an option as most them are already gone. Good idea, though.
