O3 head question

Before I do it and mess anything up, I figure I'd ask....
If I plug an O3 head into an APX unit to test it.....and then later plug it into an XTL5000 unit, will I have any issues? Will the XTL have any issues updating the O3 software on the fly?

We had someone bring one in that had done this, had to resync the control head to the radio. Took forever but it did work. We made them stand there and wait the whole time (refused to pull the radio out of their truck) and educated them against doing this again.
