Hello,

I've a problem with a XTL 2500, my boss gave me this used radio with its control head, cables, etc. I connected the whole thing following the Radio Installation (100 Watts Remote Remote Highpower) diagram included in the XTL2500 Installation Manual.
Everything seemed to be fine, turned on the power supply, the control head was on, showing the Channel, Zone. Also I connected a Wattmeter to verify that the radio work fine, but when I press the PPT button to transmit and measure the output power suddenly the CH turns off, the Wattmeter seems to measure something, but you can´t read it. After a moment, the CH turns on again, but if you press PTT again, the same situation happens.

I don´t know if the problem is the power suply I am using (13.8 VCD, 20 A)... Do I need a supply with Higher current?

Thanks in advance

That sounds like your problem, the Power Supply is starving for current. You really need a 30-40 A capable supply for doing the high power mobiles. Try putting the mobile in low power mode (assign a button if necessary), and see if it still does it. If so, it might be RF getting back into the control head or power supply and causing problems. Check your dummy load, make sure it's in the 48-52 ohm range.

XTL2500 high power is going to draw about 22 amps.

For the OP -- I recommend you take a look at the Basic Service Manual for your radio. That manual can be found on this site. It will describe the exact power requirements for you radio in detail.

Short answer, as has been stated, you need más amperaje!
