Trying to program PM1500 mobile. Have genuine prog CPS and cable. The software is Astro 25 Mobile CPS Ver. R17.01.02 and the cable is a Motorola USB version A3-HKN6184C.. I have it installed on a laptop with Win XP. When I begin Win recognized the PM1500 control head and wants to load a driver for it. When I start CPS and attempt to read the radio I get an error stating the radio is not connected. Any tips would be helpful.

Do you have the cable plugged into the radio itself (orange coded GCAI connector)? I seem to recall that was the only place you could program those radios from.

I was trying to program through the mic connector. I will try that. I do better with the old equipment. Thanks for the help.

It should still work through the mic jack, serial or USB (TIB port is USB only IIRC)

Sounds like a driver issue, perhaps uninstalling and reinstalling is the next step if the issue persists

When I power up the radio, prior to starting CPS, Windows recognizes the PM1500 control head and starts searching for a driver. I have not had a radio do that before, so I have just been canceling the driver search. I have been told that could be why the CPS is not seeing the head.

Just let it do its thing and it will install the driver from the control head. Takes maybe a minute or two? Then it should work.

Don't cancel; tell it not to search the internet, and to find the driver "automatically". It will search the local HDD and (hopefully) find it and install it.
