Hy I have a hkn6183b cable that I use to program my xtl5000,with 05 control face.I have heard that this same cable can program the xpr5550 also, Is this true?? I have an xpr5550 on the way.........thank you 73's andy

A google search reveals, YES it can.
I have done it first hand, YES I have.
Should Motorola have made seperate incompatible cables so they could make more money, YES they should. It is not in Motorola's best interest to do what they have done with this cable. Shame on you Moto!:p

I'm attempting to use this model cable(hkn6183b)with my new XRR5550 and latest CPS from MOL. Laptop is running Win XP. CPS keeps giving the "Error #1687, Unable to detect applicable device(s). Check to see if a compatable programming cable is used". I have tried the cable directly into the serial port and also tried a USB to serial converter. Same results. I checked the cable on my XTL2500 and it works fine on that.

When I power up the XPR with this cable attached it displays "Front Impres TM Accy" and a check mark in a green box at the top.

Did something change recently that would require a specific cable for these? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

According to MOL, CPS 10.8 Bld 590 for Trbo is not supported for XP. Also, serial GCAI cables are not supported for Mototrbo programming. The correct cable is the HKN6184C USB GCAI cable. Fortunately, the USB GCAI cable works for both Astro25 AND Trbo mobiles AND APX mobiles.
