The title says it all. What are the proper steps within CPS to change from a W5 to a W3 head on an XTL 5000. Thanks!!!

Tools-change control head and then select the head. CPS does have help files that explain this as well.

That's the steps within CPS. You have to change out hardware too.

Let me explain a little more. The "brain" just came back from /\/\ with the latest firmware. The W3 setup is already installed in a vehicle. The "brain" will work if plugged into a W5 but I can't read/write if I hook it up to the W3 nor will it power on. Do I just need to plug it into a W5 and change the head type to W3 and write it? If I attempt that it shows a warning about the hardware not being compatible.

Also I did remove a working "brain" that has a W3 hooked into it and it does work with the new vehicle setup so I have confirmed that the instillation of the hardware is correct.

Thanks

The w3 has a different interconnect board. You have to get the correct one. You would then tell the radio it is a w3 while still a w5. Then you would swap out the interconnect board and attach the w3 head.

Where would I find one and what's an approximate cost? Would you by chance have a part number?

The part numbers are available via the basic service manual which should be available on this site. Please look around. Manual states hln6885 for mid power which MOL has updated to hln6915a with a list price of 110.25.

High power is hln6901a which MOL ultimately substitutes to phln6901d with a list price of 160.00

You will have a hard time finding these boards on the used market.
