I've got 2 radios here, both on the same frequency.

Both radios are new firmware XTS5K's with ADP. I've set one radio up with ADP, the other is not.
When I key up the unencrypted radio, the encrypted unmutes and receives the transmission.
When I key up the encrypted radio - the unencrypted radio does the same!

Things I've checked:
Personality:
Secure/Clear Strapping: Secure
Key Strapping: Strapped with a key selected
Applied to the channel.
Secure:
Config'd for ADP (There's no hardware)
Secure Multikey -1 has key data. All others are "*******".

Am I missing something? Or, will any radio with the same ADP key unmute on a encrypted transmission even if the personality doesn't have encryption enabled?

Thanks in advance!

I forget off head but dealt with this before long ago. What is the digital squelch settings? Normal? Digital csq? Etc. Are you running the F7E for rx nac as it will unmute to any digital? Try a normal nac rx I'm guessing it's at (your radio) 293 default. Then see if your digital squelch is set to normal.

I've tried both Digital CSQ and normal (it's back at normal now) and you're right on the NAC, 293.

I'd have to look at a couple codeplugs in while. I know I have a xts 5000 that has latest firmware doing what your describing. I haven't messed with it yet. I'll compare it to the other one think it's sitting at prior to latest firmware that doesn't have the issue. I had a few other xts 5s do it beforr but i forget how i got it around that minor annoyance to just monitor with other then having the legit keys loaded in (authorized) i didnt didnt really bother after that point but do have a 2500 without any secure board just adp software which doesnt have that issue. Is your perosnality mixed mode or straight p25? Unless I missed something in firmware that changed this it's probably a setting somewhere. I'll look at the 2500s plug and the 5000 compare see if anything is missing.

In your conventional profile, go to "ASTRO" and set "RX Unmute Rule" to "Selective Squelch".

Then go to the "ASTRO Call" tab, and enable "Selective Call Decode".

Definition of Selective Squelch:

CPS said:
Selective Squelch: The radio unmutes upon decoding a Network ID match and (either a Talkgroup ID match or a Selective Call.) If the radio is expecting to receive a voice call using DES-XL, but receives DES-OFB, then the radio will not unmute. The DES-XL Tx Default field selection determines the type of encryption algorithm that the radio expects to receive when in this mode.

This also acts as a Key ID (KID) filter. If the KID doesn't match, the radio will not unmute to secure traffic on a conventional mode.

I believe your final guess is correct. "...will any radio with the same ADP key unmute on a encrypted transmission even if the personality doesn't have encryption enabled?"

Yes. The radio auto-switches to coded mode when it sees encrypted traffic and if the KID and key match, it will decode it, regardless of any secure/clear settings. Those are for steering TX mode only.

To confirm, blow the key or enter a different one in the "unencrypted" radio and see if it either decodes garbage or doesn't unmute.

Also, make sure the unit ID's in the two radios are different, it seems to cause brain damage if they match.
