It pays to take a look at the actual target market for the Bluetooth extender.
It's targeted at utility crews who might be working up a pole on a cherry picker, or truck drivers who are unloading goods from their vehicle. For those purposes, it's perfectly adequate.
They're not aiming this at cops who might chase a suspect on foot for a mile.
Basically anyone who can hit the repeater with their mobile but not the handheld. This replaces the need for the handheld to hit the repeater via RF. Any users with a 100 watt MTR3000 and 10dB Stationmaster can attest to the fact that just because you can hear the repeater does not mean you can hit it
