Hi

I am newer at programing radios and I have a Motorola XTS5000 UHF which is flashed as trunking. One of the questions I have is can I pick up a trunking talk groups by entering the control and voice frequencies and putting the NAC since its a P25 Phase 1 Trunking network? I am wondering this because I don't know how to get a system key. I am also wondering if anyone knows how to generate a system key? I have searched all over the internet and have not found anything?

Thanks

You're probably not going to a get a nice response here. Read the rules here. If you don't know what you are doing you have to potential to put lives in danger. Unless you have explicit permissions to do what you are trying, don't do it. My answer to your questions is to do some more research and learn about the technology you are dealing with before trying anything. The information is out there you just have to know how to look for it. Frankly if you didn't find it by now before posting your question give up and sell the radio.

Discussion of obtaining system keys, generating system keys, or otherwise accessing a trunking system is not permitted. Please review the site rules.

http://communications.support/threads/3081-SITE-RULES

IF YOU REQUEST, OFFER, POST OR TRADE SYSTEM KEYS, DISCUSS HOW TO USE SYSTEM KEYS, OR DISCUSS OTHER WAYS TO ACCESS A TRUNKING SYSTEM, YOU WILL BE BANNED.

Keep googling.

Scanning a trunked system without a system key is possible using selective squelch. This method can be effective on low-traffic systems. See this video for a demonstration:

Ditto what Trip said NotATechGuy. I will cut you some slack today based on the way that your question was phrased.

Scanning And Monitoring P25 Trunking On Conventional And System Keys

Is monitoring this way is still limited to 15 + 1 talkgroups?

I approved the post, even though the topic has three words misspelled. I knew you guys would sort it out :)

I didn't want to get mad at a chicken pecking on an iPhone screen. It probably escaped from KFC.

+1 to Jim... is there an expansion beyond the 16ch scan now? Obviously in the real world it shouldn't be needed but with newer radios it should be possible.

Sure is. It's called an APX. :p

All kidding aside. APX radios can scan 50 trunked talkgroups or 30 conventional channels when you don't mix trunking and conventional or scan across systems. When you go with a multi-system scan list it limits you to 10 conventional and 50 talkgroups per system up to 250 members max.

Thanks for this, I had no idea and this may sway some purchase decisions going forward.
