Is this meant to be a successor to the XPR8400?

The SLR5000 series has been on the EMEA roadmap for a while. UHF is coming in Q2 and VHF in Q3.

Darn - an I just purchased an XPR-8400 for my demo kit / lab. Guess I will have to relegate it to the lab only, and get one of these for the Kit :)

If / when they get announced -

I am going to guess IWCE will be the announcement. The approval was 2/12/15 for UHF, and the VHF is in the docket, just hasn't been released yet. This is undoubtedly a replacement for the 3u 8400 series, which makes sense.

I think we will see it at CPE in the Aria first, maybe as part of the opening session program.

An then it will cross the street --

All PDFs are included under the link to the webpage I provided in the original post.

Whoever sees this in Vegas, get pictures! (stick one under your jacket if you can!)

Interesting reading the doco they have gone for a 1ru pizza box design - 50 continuous duty cycle the fans will be screaming flat out

The only other piece of missing info - will this repeater also do tier 3 down the track with the correct license (and extra controller hardware)

We're getting closer to the design I predicted more than a decade ago. The basic radio will have three connectors and two lights - power conn, ant conn, ethernet jack, power light, xmit light. Now MOT needs to make a simple control application like PC-NXU to operate the radio from a PC or laptop.

Yes, yes, it's great, I lost words to express my emotions, first 3RU, Hytera 2R, now M is back with just 1RU.... And guess what, even an PSU is included!!!
Its like the old times between the western and eastern world.

Some thoughts:
1) Much better than throwing two mobiles in a metal ox and sell this as a repeater (I was a little disappointed after the first look under the DR3000 hood)
2) The price need to be inline with the EOL product, if so? Time will shows us.
3) Are we in for the contest "Who is able to stack the most repeaters in one cabinet into ONE antenna"? Curious the 1RU duplexer/combiner circuits.....

Anyway, I think this repeater is a promise for the next coming years.
B.t.w. I've already order a large amount of fan bearing grease, this could be a rare product in the near future :)

Cheers.

I think it's entirely possible to have a simultaneous multi-channel base station in a small form factor. This notion of a single channel single purpose radio is doing the bye-bye.

Receiver section samples an entire band, and the programming determines which specific freqs are demux'd. They may be shipped downstream on the network, or they may be turned around and aimed at the exciter, or both.

Exciter section generates multiple envelopes at once within a band. Passes the low level RF to a linear amp. The size of the linear amp is the system limitation.

Everything else is just bits on a data bus to be massaged, manipulated, or muted. Essentially, all base stations will be channelized BDA's.

What I like about this new design is the modular PA and other sections. Rarely do we see a receiver or exciter failure. Having a spare PA, fan and PS FRUs is going to make repeater servicing a breeze.

It's nice that they are putting some engineering effort into this instaid of slapping two mobiles in a box and writing some more software to connect the two.

Agreed. I figured it was only a matter of time. On sites where they charge so much for rack space (American Tower-cough!) being able to sandwich more repeaters in one rack for your ConnectPlus system is going to be a real gain for some operators.

And for an extra 50c per unit they could have made the design with exchangeable power supply without dis-assembly or for 75c more made it exchangeable without need to lose power when exchanging the power supply. Then again, we need to leave something for the next release of the product.

And including a power supply 6 of one 1/2 dozen of the other - it has been use full as much as a useless for a number of local sites.

I agree with com501 - the modular design has it's advantages plus there are options for future (licensed or not) features from this platform.

Wonder if these will be worth anything, or if they will be problem plagued like the PA's on XPR8300's and the power supplies on GTR 8000's... We shall see.
