Messed up name.

I just got a demo unit of this in at the insistence of once of our chiefs. Same as zello so far. Cept zello is free through project zeffir. These guys aren't. $2k per year, $6 a month per unit. They supply a cradlepoint and an nxu-2.

Will be getting this going maybe tomorrow and will do some playing with this..... Can't see changing to it. Upper mgmt is concerned zello will start charging. I say so what just pay them when/if it happens...

They do supply tech support though and they own the gateway and router so if something happens they replace it.

Some pics of the box they send for the demo...their radio connector matches up to apx but it looks more like an xpr type connector... kinda hinky they use the ratheon cable and wire it inline with the radio cable. Then use what looks like a gender bender to connect to the nxu... Why not just wire it right to begin with..

@EM36 Raytheon has not been associated with JPS for some number of years now. The original group bought them back when Raytheon shut it down.

The Cables use the interposer (also know as a null modem) so that they are compatible with all of the other ACU hardware. The NXU was originally built to direct cable to the back of a DSP-1 card before the cards had IP in them only when they started using them as standalone gateways did the Interposer become necessary to keep the number of cables to a minimum.

Used to keep a set of cables with each M/A task force for their standard radios, that way when they responded out of territory they could use one of there portables as a gateway instead of the Interop unit (MEOC) needing to stock many various walk cables.

I find it interesting that Tango Tango is using JPS kits, if you have grant funds you should be able to build your own in house with the JPS components. I think they private label esChat as the PTToC component.

I still a have an ACU-1000, a couple of NXU units, and any number of cables around here somewhere -

I dealt with them at my previous job. I had 4 single site repeaters connected to their own tango tango unit. They worked great and the customer service was amazing.

My only dislike was the cellphone app interface other than that loved them.

Got to love .gov think. "What if they some time in the future they start charging for this free product?" "I know, let's preemptively change to on the charges now"

Thanks for the input. Much appreciated. I used to be a jps dealer when I was in the private side but never did anything other than snv12 voters.

I have an acu1000 here too. We havent figured out a good use for it. It's pretty redundant to our backups we already have.

Yea I spent too much time in the private side. I built my whole gateway for under $200 and threw an apx8000 loaded into it so there was some flexibility. It's near digital audio quality since it's using a cakewalk at 96k sampling lol. Everyone that's heard it comments on the loudness and the quality.

I would rather just leave it as it is. I doubt they're going to spend the money these guys want anyways. $2k a year for the gateway and $6 a month per unit.

LOL wait til they see the traffic load on this hehehe. Between the 4 ops channels, dispatch, admin....it never shuts up lol

So we're on the second demo of the gateway, audio didn't sound very good on first unit. Same on second. It's very tinny and compressed. Not thrilled with the app. It's dinosaurish. It doesn't work with bluetooth headsets. I had it on all night last night and didn't hear a peep on the fire stream.

We demo'ed TangoTango. They are pricey for what it is. Zello with a $200 radio gateway accomplishes the same task for NON CRITICAL users, like admin folks. I did exactly what you did and built our own gateway using a SignalLink USB, APX4500 (grabbing audio and PTT off the J2 connector), and a spare desktop PC running Zello in RG mode. Sure, limited functionality as far as patching, but for giving our admin people access to our encrypted OPS talk group, it was cheaper and no ongoing expenses. If it doesn't work, oh well. We also demo'ed Mutual Link, which actually had a presence built out into our MCC7500s using a CCGW, and worked very well, but was as much as Wave or other enterprise solutions with ongoing opex costs into the thousands per year.

Tnx for the feedback MTS. I think I can agree at this point with what you said. I discussed a bunch of this with the rep today and she said the app does do bluetooth, but it appears it doesn't switch the same as other apps. Going to look at this further.

Tango Tango got tango mangoed. Ultimately they need some work on their app. Doesn't switch hf to headset properly and the audio just didn't sound good. I sent the gateway back yesterday afternoon.

Customer service great but means absolutely nothing if it sounds like dog doodoo. It wasn't just me saying this either, other users said same thing. Unjit to unit was ok but the stream via radio was sub par.
