Ok, first this is (sort of) a continuation of this thread:
http://communications.support/threads/7296-XTS5000-Scratchy-Audio
Basically, I got another Q split 5K. And guess what, after programming it, it now exhibits the exact same problem. For those who are too lazy to read the above thread, on analog TX audio, there is scratching, almost like high wind across a mic. The issue is worse on the upper few Mhz of the band. Down on the 440 HAM band, I can not detect it. There is a audio sample in the other thread.
Since this is happened to two radios in a row, I am sure it's something wrong in my programming set up. I also know, because I tested the radio with FPP before I programmed it, and it was fine.
Current set up is:
CPS R20
A aftermarket serial cable. (It's from Wiscomm, whose cables I have always found to work great)
A IO gear Serial to USB adapter. (The first radio exhibited the radio on pure serial, no adapter. I actually got the adapter thinking that maybe a voltage issue on my serial port was what caused the issue)
Windows 7 (still an issue in XP mode)
And lastly, my PC is a 64-bit, machine. The mother board is a dual processor, Opteron server board.
At this point, I am starting to think it's my machine. I have to imagine the number of people who have tried to program astro25 radios on dual processor AMD server boards has to be little to none.
So, first does anyone know what exactly this problem is? RF deck, Controller board, DSP?
Second, does anyone know what might be causing this? Could the AMD board somehow be screwing with CPS?
Thanks guys. I am scared to buy another Astro25 radio. I afraid I'm just going to keep screwing them up.
EDIT: I forgot to add: It's a impres battery, so the noise is not coming from there. The antenna is also the right band.
