So I've always been a Motorola fiend, & I have a XPR7550, as well as a XPR3500. They both use the stubby antenna, & the rx is more sensitive than my XPR6550 was [sold it] with the longer Jedi UHF antenna. But my Hytera buddy who works for them insisted I try a Hytera PD782 at the Orlando ham fest. Oh, & he put a longer antenna than stock on the Hytera. So I figured why not. The rx volume was nice & loud, but I noticed the rx was choppy in certain locations. So I compared the 3500 & 782 side by side, & the 3500 never lost the signal, while the Hytera kept losing the signal. My friend was in denial, but other people heard it too. I tried to have an open mind, but looks like no Hytera for me. GARY

We have a ton of 782's in circulation here. I am not a fan to say the least and my old boss plans on phasing them out and replacing them with XPR6500's. To mirror your statements, The sensitivity kinda sucks. In the field my Motorola radios would keep and hold an analog or DMR repeater relatively well considering the terrain. The 782 was constantly dropping out on analog and bonking out on DMR in the same areas. The stock antennas are constantly falling apart as well.

I have both, 7550 and 782. I often use a distant dmr repeater and never notice a sensitivity difference.

I shared my findings with a few friends who sell 2 way radios for a living. They all experienced similar results with other PD782's & concur that it sounds like the squelch was set too tight, however the friend who supplied me with the radio assures me it was properly aligned. Usually when Trbo radios are on the fringe, they sound R2D2ish before losing the signal. This radio went from full quieting to nothing in the same word, while the 3500 was always full quieting. Plus, why would my friend put a longer antenna on the radio if the rx was so good? My 7550, & 3500 work great with the factory stubby. Otherwise, the Hytera had nice loud rx audio, & felt solid in my hand. In comparison, my other friend's CS700 had better rx. GARY

Customers using motorola and hytera at my experience have mixed reviews, pd 7xx series are somewhat old now and are more inline from DP34/3600 series from my experience.

The newer gen2 Motorola radios compare well with hytera's 680 series from a performance view based on feedback from customers and comparing like to like models but hytera do need to refresh there pd78x series radios to get them back up to speed or ahead of motorola offerings in the higher trbo models.

mobiles have been solid on both sides of the fence from my experience.
