Voice Scan Hangtime

What exactly does the "Voice Scan Hangtime" checkbox do? It is found under the parameters for individual scanlists in MotoTrbo CPS Version 16 Build 828, and it's on by default. The radio I am programming is an XPR 7550e. I have read the help file page on it time and time again, and I am still confused - the information the help file provides seems almost contradictory to me. I have tried Google and searching this forum as well, but I haven't found anything relevant.

Any help or references to resources (other threads, websites, documents, etc.) is greatly appreciated :)

This is primarily relevant to repeater system operation, because although the digital voice payload may have ended, the repeater may still have a call hang time configured during which period it is transmitting RF with idle sync frames (or traffic for another timeslot). The Subscriber Inactivity Timer (SIT) on the repeater is equal or greater than the call hang time, so there's actually still RF going on, but it's not decodeable voice for the radio to unmute to. Meanwhile in an analog repeater configuration during the repeater's own hang time duration it will still be transmitting RF carrier and maybe with valid coded squelch, which is already a form of hang time before the carrier drops, at which point the radio's own hang time begins to count down before resuming scanning.

So with hang time it's the total time for the configured group call hang time PLUS the radio's internal scan hang time, which can be a long duration and the radio may miss other things on scan. This way you can disable hang time for certain scan lists, and enable it for others. Something that I wish was possible on APX.

On the other hand, you may need to have a scan hang time for lists with simplex or non-repeater calls, because the RF drops immediately when the other radio unkeys.
