What radio to buy?

Hey Guys,

I'm in the market to buy a new radio. I have budget that will allow me to buy an xtl 2500 or 5000. My question is this, what is a better radio? What are the differences in the two? (All i can tell is head color and shape) I will be using on an analog VHF system that does have p25 conventional channels. I need the full 110 watts of power. We do have a statewide vhf p25 system that we aren't on and probably won't be on due to coverage issues.

I have another option, I can buy a new apx mobile radio and the FD will pay for half. However then I will need new software and new programming cables, and if i leave the FD for whatever reason they will get the radio.

I'm upgrading from an MCS2000 model II

Any thoughts?

Buying your own, I would go XTL2500. IMO
The difference between the 2500 and 5000 is mute the 5000 supports some special features that you would probably never use. Physically and RF wise they perform the same, the decks are identical internally.

The XTL O5 head and APX use the same programing cable. The USB cable is HKN6148C

The APX would be nice if it was 7500 dual band, but I would not like the idea of them keeping it if I left, Screw that!

1 vote XTL 2500.
