Tower co is flying in Sunday and we will be working on this Monday-Wednesday. New winch, new raise winch, new pendant controls, batteries, boxes and more. This is a beast of a trailer. 14k gvw.

The city warehouses this for dhs usage in Mass. This is also what runs the start of the Bos marathon comms.

Ill take a bunch of pics if you guys are interested.

Love the rubber ducky on the dashboard :ROFLMAO:
My dad loved rubber ducky. I have a big one on the dash of my monster van. This little guy was found at a hotel stay and he started traveling with me about 4 years ago. Good for a laugh and a nice reminder of my dad. Plus I drive a vehicle that looks like an unmarked cruiser. First time I get pulled over for impersonating a cop I plan on pointing at my dash and asking if the cop has ever seen a rubber ducky in a police car before lmao

Today’s photo dump. Wasn’t a good day today. Raise/lower motor issue prevented us from finishing. It’s parked in the arena nice n warm for at least the next week. Aluma has to fly back and finish troubleshooting. D84813FB-8A05-4E30-A37A-825A78BADFD9.jpeg

Pic of electronics box is old box which was water damaged. Some pics of the cable routings and a few pics of the radio infrastructure. When it warms up outside my spring project is to get this interior cleaned up and organized. There hasn’t been much sense to do anything with this since it’s been broken.

Hello from your neighbors in NH~ That's an awesome setup. We homebuilt a couple old light trailers as mobile radio masts. Not as cool as this, but functional (and easier to transport).

Hello NH :)

Yes difficult to move. This takes a Class A CDL due to combined truck and trailer weight >13,000lb in state of Mass. Our DPW is always ready to help us with moves and service! It's awesome when everyone works together like a well oiled machine!!

I feel you with the difficult to move stuff. One of our command trailers is a tri-axle and is a bumper pull with our tractor (we seriously need to upgrade to a 5th wheel), had to get CDL-A's for myself and a few staff members so we can actually move it.

Yesterday was finish day. Aluma flew back up, new motor in hand. Aaaaaand it still didn’t work. A few hours of dicking around with the box and wiring he finds a missing jumper from Thern winch inside the control box.
The repair is now completed! Hopefully today before the storm our Central Garage will pickup and do a full generator service and repair several lights out. At some point this will come back to my office and we will get the radios inside squared away.
Also found someone trying to hitch a ride inside one of the outriggers lol

I've wanted to take an old light tower and use it for a portable tower also for SAR. Could never find anything reasonable as the Generator is normally worth more than the trailer...

So the snowstorms finally stopped and we were able to pull this out of the arena yesterday. I was down at our Central Garage this morning and the trailer is getting brakes and a bearing repack right now. Full generator service and some light issues to be fixed and will be back on the road again. Notice the new covers on all winches. If they had bothered to do this before we could have saved $20k...

And it’s home. Got dropped off earlier today. New brakes, several lights repaired, full generator service.

I’ll post some more when the temps warm up some. I plan on setting this up at my office. Lots radio work to do inside.

We have two of those trailers with each having a 12 channel Phase 2 site inside. We transferred them to one of our other bases and I was glad to see them go. These things require constant maintenance. Had a winch cable snap during a tower lift. Luckily, it was only a few inches off of the top of the trailer. There could have been some serious injuries if it had snapped when it was higher.
