I have a xpr 4550 ( will I have 2 of them ) one of them is a 450-512 that I opened up from 440-512 and everything works fine I have the code plug stored away in a safe place. But I am afraid if I lose the thumb drive I store my code plugs on or it dies on me, Is there a way to read the radio with out the CPS resetting back to the band in the radio.
I have so much in the radio I would not want to have to spend a whole day re doing the radio.

I have looked all through the Forums and have not found and hints.

Why not make backups of the codeplug files? Am I missing something?

Like stated above, have more copies. The minute you try to read that radio, & it will warn you what is about to happen giving you a chance to cancel the read request, you will lose every freq below 450, & a default freq above 450 will replace your ham freq's. I've actually made the mistake a few times, but by simply writing my saved code plug back into the radio made everything normal again. GARY

Sorry I was not clearer and I left some things out .... I do have many copies of a my code plugs spread out on many machines and Thumb drives.
What I should have added is I might buy another 4550 that is a high split and as I do know how to bring a high split down or a low split up .... The guy who is selling it does not have his code plug because he did not program it and can not get the code plug from the guy ( HE refuses to give it to him ) So thats why I was asking is there a way or do I have to start from scratch.

there is a lot in the radio of all up the east coast from Florida to Boston and I would not want to reenter it all ... but if I have to I guiess I will

Thanks Karl N2RLD

I understand what he is saying, he has a hacked codeplug written to the radio that has out of band mods done to it. If you read the radio, it will revert those invalid values, so he has to read from a codeplug each time. In answer to your first question, no you will have to keep reading the hacked codeplug or as you have observed you will lose the OOB values.

If you are trying to clone one radio into the other, you can try reading the OOB codeplug and use the clone function, but that may also reset the values before writing to the new non-OOB radio, I don't know; you'll have to try it and see if it clobbers the OOB values or not. If it doesn't, save the new cloned OOB codeplug for the 2nd radio, and you'll also have to read from that codeplug any time you want to modify it or you will lose the OOB values the same way. If cloning clobbers the values, then you're going to have to get whoever hacked the OOB codeplug for the first radio to do the other one as well, then.

Now only if we could get this kind of statement at the beginning.

Ok thanks guys. I know what I have to now get the radio read the radio, hack the code plug to bring it down to 440 again then input everything all over again.

I was hoping someone had figured out a hack to let you read an OOB radio and not loose everything. just a lot more work ... but thats what its all about
