Has anyone heard rumblings from Motorola about a limited-keypad offering of the 7000 series portable? I did a double-take this morning when I cracked open the newest system planner and saw this on the cover:

I'd really like to to know if this is going to be available in the NA market, and when, if it is. Haven't heard a thing about it as of yet.

I must be losing it... I went back and looked at older system planners, and that product shot hasn't changed in at least two years. Was an XPR 7000 LKP model ever released in other markets, or is that just a long-running photoshop job that I've never noticed before?

Looks like they've used the same picture as the EMEA system planner where it's known as the DP4601e. We've had a limited keypad model since the launch of the gen. 2 radios.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize that an LKP model existed in other markets. I just had to make a purchasing decision between buying a fleet of 3500e limited keypad radios vs. 7000e no keypad radios, when what I really needed for the job was this radio. It's really frustrating to learn that this radio exists, just not in North America.

Gotta love how these radios are designed in America, by an American company, yet the NA market ends up with the leftover table scraps of the TRBO portfolio.

I don't think we've ever ordered any because of the small price difference between it and the full keypad model. Right now it's just a $15 difference between the two from our distributor.

I needed 7000 series handhelds for the location features, but also wanted a display option to send textual information to end users. Price difference wasn't a large concern, but reducing the complexity of the front panel would have been nice.

For many applications, the price difference is often negligible, especially once you factor in EIDs to add the features to XPR3500 that come standard in XPR7550 like capplus.

Also, for folks who already have XPR6000 fleets, accessories can be re-used. 3000 series uses the smaller connector.
