I’ve been told that Motorola employees read this board, so I’m hoping some of those employees on the firmware team or CPS team will read my message. I have two XPR-7550’s (VHF & UHF) and a UHF XPR-5550, and here are some suggestions on how to make them better. Or, maybe someone has software hacks to enable this stuff.
Firmware:
Add “L” for low power to the display. You display “H” for high, so please show the “L” for low. The user manual even shows the L.
Allow me to change the timing for Quick Call II tones (decode). Many agencies with Kenwoods have sped up the tone sequence, and the Motorola can’t handle it.
When I select a zone, pressing Enter should take you back to the active channel display in the new zone. The need to hit the home button is redundant and slow.
Much like how we can override RSSI values for roaming on a per-channel basis, let us override radio ID settings on a per channel basis. That way, we can have different radio IDs for different systems.
Please double (at least) the number of channels we can have in a scan list. I know you’re afraid it will take too long to cycle through all of the channels, but that’s what priority is for. Add a disclaimer if you must.
CPS:
Give us the ability to select an entire zone or at least shift-click a bunch of channels and make a global change (frequency, color code, etc) instead of having to change each one.
Hammy Dream Feature that probably violates DMRA standard (that has no practical purpose in commercial LMR, but every ham has wished for it):
Add another selection to contact type, which is “ignore.” Make it so whenever I receive a group call from that private call ID, the radio displays the call but stays muted. Maybe let it unmute with the monitor button or something. This is to deal with exceedingly irritating hams. There are a lot of them/us.
