Can anybody here, who is familiar with both of these, give me a rundown of the most significant differences between the XPR3300e and SL 7550e? At first glance, of course, it is size and form factor, but I am looking more for whatever other differences exist between the two.

That is quite a difference. The 3300 out of the box is limited on what it will do, I know it needs an EID enhanced privacy and for Capacity Plus or LCP. The 7550 should come with that stuff included unless they are offering a stripped down version like they do for the XPR7550e.

Some major differences are:

SL - No analog mode, comes banded either UHF1 or UHF2
XPR - DMR/analog covers both UHF1 & UHF2

Why not just read the data sheet on both and compare?

Thank you very much for your replies. The reason is I like to hear from people with real world experience. For example, after I posted this, I talked with someone else who has used the SL 7550e and the first response was, "The battery life is sh!t." Obviously, the data sheet isn't going to highlight that.

I'm not buying the "Battery life is shit" thing.

Is this with the tiny little toy battery, or the high-capacity one?

Considering the SL7550/e is a PURPOSE BUILT radio (on-site, low-power), it works great. The SL is an OK radio for what it is/designed for and I get ample battery life out of it. And I talk a lot, like most gasbag hams.

I'm using the 2200mah pack. The p/n is PMNN4459A. Be aware you'll also need the high-capacity battery door to go along with it, if you've been using the slim battery/door.

Don't buy a SL7550/e and expect it to perform like a XPR7550 or XPR3xxx. That's not the purpose of it.

Just to put this in a bit better perspective for everyone, these are radios for work. I was told to order the XPR3300e, which I did, and that is what arrived.

It was just this morning, however, that I get the word that the group these were for wants a smaller radio. They are generally in business casual attire, not in uniform. They would typically be used in building on our Capacity Plus system.

While I actually haven't seen our SL 7550e units for a while, I am assuming that they have the smallest battery. They, too, would have been originally purchased for a different group that would generally be in business attire, not business casual. I didn't order the SL 7550e radios. I think the plan, when they were purchased, was that they would be used on simplex. I am told that they were underwhelmed by the simplex performance. It is also quite likely that they have the absolute smallest UHF antenna available for these.

TX Interrupt, Enhanced Privacy, and Capplus are probably the most notable non-standard features that require a license.

The SL series is surprisingly rugged from a drop/impact standpoint, however the internal speaker audio output is very weak and pathetic. Its best used with the operations critical Bluetooth accessories or wired earpiece.

Note that the USB charging is pretty particular, so although it is a common Micro USB, not every charger will work. I believe the OEM chargers are 5V 850ma.

I have seen a fair amount of button failures however (volume up/down, ptt, etc)

SL 7550e is now three watts, and the battery life is reasonable to very good with the extended battery. Don't even bother with the slim.

With a properly planned and high quality system install (proper pattern antennas for the building or area (not some junky high gain fiberglass on the roof of an office tower), good feed line like heliax, combiner/multicoupler instead of a bunch of duplexers, SLR series repeaters, everything done A+), the SL7550e is an extremely viable option, and can be your "standard issue" without a doubt. If there are areas where the XPR will work and SL won't, and the usage of the radios is even slightly important, it means you need another site, BDA, DAS or your system install isn't what it should or could be.

For some TRBO systems, the digital voting feature can really help even out the talk in range on the SL.
