XPR5550 HOT TRBO Audio

I have had several subscribers complain of hot distorted TRBO Audio while mobile in trucks using the XPR5550.

Despite making many changes to many portables and mobiles audio fields in the CPS I had no luck.

Until I called the TRBO support group. They suggested I read the document I have attached that explains each of the many audio settings.

Then I found the problem. The XPR5550's I programmed the CPS defaulted to "Intelligent Audio Response" NORMAL. I have now selected DISABLED and the problem is solved. Intelligent Audio brought the base audio floor up much to high as a result of the ambient noise level, therefore the speaker audio was much much higher than volume knob.

Thank's to the support group.

The root of the problem with hot audio is the default master gain (audio) setting of -20. It's too bloody loud. I have been working with (not for) Motorola to correct this issue and enhance the functionality of the microphone AGC parameters.

Read this, and consider applying the patch to your codeplugs: http://communications.support/threads/10106-AUDIO-FIX-for-all-MOTOTRBO-subscriber-radios

If you don't like it, you can always revert back by programming the original codeplug back into the radio.

Edit: After re-reading your post, I understand your issue had to do with "automatic" loud speaker volume. Yes, definitely disable that feature. It's undesirable in just about every application I can think of.
