I've run into an issue installing my XPR5550 into my new vehicle using the RMN5065A mic. In the old installation, the mic was connected directly to the front of the radio. The new install includes a separation kit. Due to the location of the radio head, I ordered a PMKN4033A extension cable, which is where my problems start. The mic works great when connected directly to the radio head. However, when I connect it to the extension cable, the only function available is PTT. The Mic buttons do not light up and the radio does not recognize the mic as an IMPRES device upon power up. Connecting the mic directly to the head once again restores functionality.

According to what I've been told, the PMKN4033A is only for use with the RMN5052 and RMN5053 mics and evidently does not support the RMN5065A. I'm guessing that there is a wire or two missing in the pin-out and that's where my problem lies.

Does anyone know of a way to make this work? I did a search and saw reference to an extension cable for the HHCH that had not been released yet. Would that guy resolve my issues, or do I just suck it up and buy an RMN5053 so that I can have my channel up/down buttons? That is the main reason I have the RMN5065A. I don't suppose that one can source a male & female XPR mic connector and roll my own?

Thanks in advance.

Have you called TRBO support yet? Not a sarcastic reply; those guys are seriously on their game. 1-800-422-4210. I've never not been impressed with how intelligent the support group is.

Indirectly. The place I bought the cable from called Mother M this morning. That was where the info regarding the supported mics came from. I was hoping someone on here had, "come up with something."

I'm back to the stock mic now and honestly with the head mounted where it is, it's not so bad. So maybe I'll just live with it and sell the RMN5065A.

After thinking about it, the HHCH extension will likely do me know good, because I'm sure it's DB25 like the separation kit. ASSumption on my part, but perhaps as safe of one as you can get.....

I should also add, that you only get PTT with the above combination. The mic audio isn't connected either. I found that out on the way home this afternoon. So the whole combination is no go.

The mic extension only supports "dumb" mics. Same problem with the APX. In APX land, there is a remote mic extension that plugs into the USB and 26-pin connectors on the CHIB... no such option apparently exists for the 5550 (and the APX version is hella expensive).

I don't mean to bump this thread, but has anyone had success bugging the crap out of Motorola to get the extension in production or has anyone had luck in chopping up the cable and figuring out what needs to be done to get this to work? I can't be cluttering up my dashboard with these cables as it is a huge pain in the a** to say the least...

Don't hold your breath on a new cable.

Mother would like you to go all Bluetooth anyway.

Always listen to your Mother.

Wait a second they're Bluetooth???

And not so much dtmf, but I like to have the radio controls so I don't have to be messing around with my console. I have muscle memory of all the buttons on the mic with my current radios.
