Upgraded my 4550 to a 5550 this week. Odd thing is when i put the 5550 into a remote mount (Correct cable and remote kit) the red light on the LED indicator blinks. Just keeps a flashing.. When i turn it back into a front mount it dont blink.
Any idea what could be causing this issue? I can disable the LED lights as a temp fix... But be nice to know WTF its doing.

Had the same issue with a Handheld Control Head had to do a Device Recover with Handheld Control Head installed. Then wrote my codeplug back to the 5550 solved the problem.

Alrighty!
I did the recovery and that has fixed the red light issue

Now i have another problem. Im getting no range when transmitting and when im reviving a transmission its mostly static. Radio is in high power for 56 watts and its static when i transmit also.
This is in analog and when i had the 4550 everything was fine. Only thing that has changed is the radio.

I assume i need to have this thing tuned now...

How would one go about making a 4550 into a 5550, other than changing the control head? Rob

Easy. Remove 4550 remote head, remove 4550 radio. Replace with 5550 radio, replace with 5550 control head :p

The remote cables are the same for both radios, so rather then taking the seats and carpets out to run a new remote cable im lucky the 4550 remote cable works on the 5550. Just dont need to use the microphone extension cable for the 5550

The remote head mounts are different, the 5550 head wont fit on the 4550 remote mount, same with the radio itself the remote kit is different. Nice to have a UHF and now a VHF 5550 in the car... Be even better once i get the VHF issue fixed up :)

Ahh, I mis read. I thought you converted a 4550 to 5550, not an actual remove and replace. Sorry

Im quite sure its out of wack.
On the good ole weather channel im hearing the normal station plus another that is on a different frequency. They both come in on the same channel at about the same signal strength

Time to break out the service monitor and grab the tuner software and fix this. Seems to be out of tune in the 160's area. Had a fire page on 154 and herd that loud and clear. The weather channel and our fire tac channel are all buggered up and they are in the 162-165

You really need a calibrated service monitor to properly tune any radio as values can differ enough to not work unit to unit.

I'm on vacation right now and am unsure if my laptop has my tuner file on it or not.

I'll check tonight and if so I'll upload it.

I was getting ready to upload my tuner file but re-read the thread on my PC and not my phone... I didn't see the VHF part. All I have is a UHF tuner file.. sorry!
