I've got an XPR5550 with the basic microphone. I can't seem to find a way to make either the knob or the up/down buttons change zones. The only way I've found to change zones is with a P1-4 button and then up/down arrows, followed by "OK", followed by "Home". There's got to be a better way. Am I missing something in CPS?
Alternatively - is there a better way to set up the radio besides a DMR repeater per zone, with each TG as a channel within that zone?

Thanks!

Nope, that's the way. Even better if you're doing Connect+ as well - you can't see the zone names of non-C+ zones while you're in the C+ mode.

I use a zone per area. So, DFW has one zone... then a channel for each repeater/TG.

I sure wish these radios could be configured to display the zone name on that line where it shows the channel number. Its an entire line of the display wasted. If one needs to have CH1, CH2, etc, they could just put it in the alpha tag. I hope Motorola changes this in the future and makes that line programmable for zone name. Sorry for the slight rant.

I've noticed that too - and I'm right with you on hoping it changes.

FWIW: If your radio is connected to a PC - TransTRBO (Windows PC Freeware for hams) displays the Zone name as part of its status display line.

Thanks. Sounds interesting. I just took a look at the webpage but don't see a download path for the software?

But that's because people like you think and actually care about the user and your work shows it.

Remember, Motorola doesn't and it shows on their firmware too often. Yet they have the nerve to regulate trbo developers often better then their own with licensing and "approval".

FYI: TransTRBO is also Freeware for Non Profit and volunteer organisations.

To access the TransTRBO downloads - may I suggest you join the forums at
http://www.transtrbo.com
or direct
http://www.transtrbo.com/forums/index.php

No email registration will be sent and you'll be able to login immediately.

You'll see a 'private' section called "Releases" (which is not available to unregistered users).

Please download and install the full install Vn 0.1.0.6
Then download Vn 0.1.0.7 and copy the include files over the top of existing files in the install directory.

Once, you've done that:-
1. Connect your Base Station radio (via the CPS cable - modified if you wish to record voice)
2. Start the TransTRBO application and complete the Setup Wizard (bearing in mind that the username/password is your choice)
(There are some notes available in the forums or in the included Help file *.chm - that cover most areas)
3. On completion and if everything is OK the app will connect to the Base Station radio
4. A registration dialog will appear - Select option #1
5. Copy and email me that signature - we'll then send you a key ..

Please use this form http://www.transtrbo.com/support.php and either Phill (VK3JPH) or I will send you an activation key.

My thanks to the Hams that have helped me with this and other products!

(Apologies if I appear to be hijacking this thread).

cheers
