xpr6550 firmware update question

Hello, running cps 11 and installed MOTOTRBO_2.0_R024000_070708_Portable.exe firmware into cps. I am getting the common cps error "no matching packages exist" when going Device/Update. Is this the right firmware for the XPR6550? I verified that it appears to be in the right directory in cps. Not sure what else to look for.

I can read and write to the radio, and current firmware is 1.07.02

Thanks, Aristotle

Wrong firmware.... That's for the 2nd gen TRBO radios. 1st gen are at R12.something. Take a look in the firmware section here and you'll find it.

Unfortunately you will need to use CPS 10.5 and upgrade to either R01.11.21, R01.12.02 or R01.12.11 (I can remember which one is dependant on the other at that point). Then you step on up to R01.12.13 using CPS 10.7 (CPS 11 may be able to do the last step, but I always used 10.7, and haven't tried 11 for this last step).

R01.12.13 is the newest firmware available for the gen 1 radios. Motorola has announced they will no longer add new features in the gen 1 radios, but will continue to support bug fixes. So there may be a newer firmware one day for gen 1 radios, but it will only be to fix something they deem really bad enough to deploy a fix for.

There is no need to go thru all the steps. Just load the latest and greatest into CPS 11 and let it upgrade it.

Don't know why.... but that hasn't been my experience using 10.7 CPS to upgrade 6550s and 4550s from firmware versions in the R01.0X.XX era. I assume CPS 11 has changed that?

Well I skipped 10.7 and 10.8 entirely, and went from 10.5 to 11.0, then upgraded my radio from 2.30.10 to the latest 2.4 firmware in one go with no issues. Granted this was with a Gen2 radio (XPR7550) but the earlier radios should upgrade several steps in one go with no problem.

Worked like a charm, used CPS11 and went directly to R01.12.13 . Many Thanks to everyone, Aristotle W2ZOU

Just yesterday I upgraded a few Gen 1 radios from 1.10.something to 1.12.11 using 10.7 CPS in 1 step. I'm waiting for the bugs to be fixed on CPS 11, & FW 2.4 for my gen 2 radios before I upgrade from 2.30.13. But that means I'll need to get a Windows 7 laptop tomorrow at the Orlando Hamfest. GARY
