XPR7550 battery - what happens when its "reconditioned" by the charger?

My XPR7550 charger went into recondition mode (steady orange LED) when charging an Impress lithium ion battery.

I only though that "reconditioning" worked with NiMH or NiCad batteries..where you do a complete charge/discharge/charge cycle.

I though that lithium ion batteries can be topped up at any time..there is no need to cycle to prevent any memory effects.

So what's happening when the Impres charger reconditions an XPR7550 Impres lithium battery?

On LiIon impress battery, it keeps the capacity of the battery calibrated. So your gas gauge and if available on the menu display to read capacity correctly.
Same thing is done with NiMH and NiCd but has the benefit of a discharge also, to minimize memory. The reconditioning/disharge may also help keep the cells balanced in all 3 chemistries.

I believe the way capacity is determined, is a recondition/discharge is performed. And then the batt is charged back up. Not sure what they use to determine capacity but it could be... the combination of time, voltage, current and temp to reach a full charge/solid green.

It has been awhile since I read the Impres documents, so if I missed something or am wrong on something, someone will correct me.:D

Many thanks.

What happens if you swap around batteries - I sometimes use a battery from another radio rather than waiting to charge the fitted battery.

Is all the capacity and fuel gauge settings independently retained within the battery or does the battery need to be fitted to the radio when charging?

Everything is independently retained in the individual batteries.
