Just received several UHF XPR8300 back from the depot. Depot paperwork states that Service Kits (TX radio) are no longer available for this model and want approx. 70% dealer cost of a new XPR8400 to "UPGRADE" this 8300 to an 8400. I didn't think the 8300 had been out of production that long. FB

The TX radio and RX radio are exactly the same unit. I have swapped several on our rental units. EIDs will need to be re-registered. Save the tuning parameters and if you have a service monitor with autotune for repeaters you can run it after completion.

Too bad the TX and RX units for the XPR8300 are NLA. You can buy XPR8400 FRUs, but you'll need new flexes and a new controller board as well. XPR8300 have been discontinued for ~4 years now.

Its a good thing I still have four or five new TX modules in stock for one of my trunking customers then. I am seriously considering replacing the RF modules on the bad ones and seeing if I can get the bias adjusted correctly so that they work correctly. The CDMs with the same PA were such a PITA. I'm thinking the Aeroflex autotune might just do the trick.
