All,

I have the need to provide a DC battery bank for 4 XPR8400 repeaters. I understand that the 8400 has its own internal charger and ac to dc switchover circuit.

The bank is large, 12 100 Ah AGM batteries charged by a Samlex SEC1280 battery charger.

My question is what will be damaged, if anything if we connect the 8400 repeaters tot he battery bank. Essential now you will have the samlex charger charging the bank and the 4 XPR repeaters. I am not aware of any settings to shut off the internal charger in the XPR and just leave the ac to dc switching circuit.

As a note there are a few other items connected to the bank that work on 12 volt battery back up that do not charge.

Thanks, Rob

Here's another post on an XPR8400 solution:

The '8300 and '8400 only do a basic 'trickle charge'. I've swapped them out for SLR5700 repeaters at battery sites for the much improved charger capability, something that shows Motorola can listen. The '5700 does voltage programmable charger (in 100 mV steps) and outputs up to 3 amps. It also has better AC and DC alarm arrangements.
