XPR8400 Update

I'm having a few intermittent issues with an XPR8400 repeater, but my other XPR8400 works like a champ. They are running different firmware versions so I'm currently chalking the issues up to firmware.

However, when I try to update the repeater from R02.40.01 to R02.40.20 it goes into a disabled state (expected I think) then the CPS software reports that it was "Error #2898 Unable to establish a connection with device. Please reset the device, reconnect it, and try again." Well I tried again about 5 or 6 times with the same result. Anyone have any advice to overcome this?

I'm using CPS 12.1

Unfortunately, it seems "normal" for XPR8300/8400/MTR3000 firmware upgrades to take multiple tries before successful. I've had this problem and so have my friends from other regions (EMEA, LA) with the same versions.

It seems there's issues with either the USB driver or timing values from within the upgrade script. (It's kind of like a batch job).

Motorola refuses to acknowledge it. Nothing's wrong.

Keep trying and it should be successful at some point.

Interestingly enough, when doing updates over IP remotely, they have all gone smoothly, even with radios that exhibited this when attempted locally. I chalked it up to the same thing, crappy USB drivers, which seem to have always plagued Trbo software.

Sorry, this may just be my Google-fu failing me, but how do I update a repeater over IP?

I've found the same thing, remote updates and programming works very well and is highly recommended. Best $$$ spent on an EID yet!

Sorry ... but how do I update a repeater over IP?

You need an EID for your programming PC. Then follow the instruction here http://communications.support/threads/8479-Remote-IP-Programming-issues?highlight=remote+programming and here http://cwh050.blogspot.co.nz/2013/08/ip-repeater-programming-repeaters.html

If updating via ip is not an option I have had a degree of success using a clean build of Windows 7 on a laptop with no other USB drivers than trbo present. It looks Motorola usb drivers have issues existing with other USB drivers from both them and other vendors.

As others have seen there are issues with trbo USB drivers but we are still yet to convince motorola

Just quick note on this, IP programing of your Repeaters does not necessarily mean being able to program from you office. I know a number of techs who use a crossover cable and just connect to the NIC verses the USB port on site to do the firmware and code plug updates.

Motorola USB - Universally Seriously Broken.
