I picked up a XTL-2500 O-5 head PW2 radio which I assume is a Nextel replacement radio (no 700 mhz). Host/DSP 12.00.0 CH 06.00.03, and I want to convert to XTL-5000 and keep the O-5 head. I know about the pad jumper to make the CH work with the 5000, and the head has a date code of 163/08 which is beleive is 163rd day of 2008, so it should be the later series head.
I was just wondering the order of how to do the upgrade without maninly bricking the head, as I know the radio is pretty much unbrickable. Should I upgrade the Host/Dsp first then convert, and will the 5000 upgrade do the CH at the same time or do I have to do it seperatley. The other option is make it a 5000 and then do the DSP/Host upgrade which I beleive does the CH upgrade as part of the firmware update.

The first rule of Fight Club is you do not talk about Fight Club.

That being said, upgrade your brick and head firmware first, sync the head to the brick if needed, and go from there. Remember that connecting a different head without modifying the codeplug with an appropriate model number/feature bytes will result in a CH MISMATCH and the radio won't operate. The instructions on how to perform the upgrade are available by searching.
