I am trying to connect a XTL 5000 to a newer Firecom unit. It is working, transmitting and receiving but the volume is too low on the receive side to understand. I am professional installer and I work for an agency. I have turned the gain up all the way on the Firecom and it is receiving but is too low to understand. There must be a setting for the XTL5000, but I can't find that setting. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

What output from the XTL did you use?

The accessory port using the Firecom accessory cable. The cable it self comes from Motorola.

I have to ask if the Firecom unit has a coupling capacitor on the input.

If it uses a transformer to couple into it, you will short out the DC bias voltage that is on the fixed RX audio output, pin 21 of the accessory rear connector on the low or mid power radio. If your using the high power radio with a trunk mount connection, then you will have to use the DB25 connector and pin 6 for the fixed RX audio out. Pin 10 is the audio ground on the DB25 connector and pin 14 or 1 for ground on the rectangular 26 pin accessory connector.

Been there and had to fight with it over the years.

For Mid Power Pin 21 RX Filtered Audio and Pin 14 Analog ground. You should'nt use Pin 1 Digital Ground for audio. Use Pin 1 for ground of your PTT low. TX and RX audio's lo's should go to pin 14.
Is there 2 dip switches on the unit? One is for Mic Gain hi/lo range and the other is for RX gain hi/lo range.
There are no RX level adjustments except for TX audio level in the CPS.
