I have an XTL 5000 with a W7 head. I was given an all black O5. I got the new flex and bridge.

Changed the control head type in the code plug. Wrote that plug with the W7 still attached. Radio attempted to boot but never came back up. Which i expected since the wrong head was attached. No error message was displayed though.

I attached the new O5 head and powered up the radio. Control head never does anything. I can tell the radio keeps booting because I have the rear programming cable connected and my laptop beeps at me.

Ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I did.

The only thing I can come up with is that there is not the firmware file on the radio for the control head.

Radio firmware is 12.

According to the release notes, the O5 was introduced to XTL in R06.01.00.

That's what I was thinking.

Would it not need to be synced to the radio?

The control head should come up and say MAINTENANCE MODE if the firmware is out of synch. If it's not displaying anything at all you have larger problems.

Do the three LEDs come on and go off at all? Is the head verified functional?

Kinda what I figured.

I'm not sure. It was used when it was given to me.
I'm going to hook it back up to its CHIB and plug it into one of my 2500s and see what it does.

The lights on the o5 don't come on at all. The lights on the W7 do.

Isn't there a chip fuse inside the head somewhere? Had some M5 2500's that died when we first got them that went to depot. Remember seeing "replace fuse in CH" on some of the service reports. I've never been into one to look though...

There IS a fuse, very visible. Make sure you have a good CHIB and if you have a different head, even if a 2500 head, you can verifying every thing is working by putting it on the CHIB.
