XTL2500 or XTL5000 protection diode?

Ive got a XTL5000 that I got in a lot of other equipment, when I plug it in it shorts the power supply. Is there a protection diode close to the 12vdc source input on the radio? I haven't opened it yet, but I plan on it when I have time.

Any help would be appreciated, I don't usually fool around with the ASTRO 25 stuff internally, I usually just send back to the depot, but this ones seen its fair share of age and use.

Absolutely, the MR2835s as shown here in the picture was shorted to ground. I removed it off the board and replaced it with another that I happened to have in stock and viola!
