XTL2500 Piggyback Speaker & XTL5000 W3 Listen Only

Hi all,

firstly this forum is a fantastic support. I have spent many hours reading and learning from various posts on this forum.\

However 2 questions I just cannot seem to find answers for

1) XTL2500 mid
I am wishing to setup 2x genuine speakers to this radio, the idea being to install one on both sides of the cabin foot well giving even audio to both driver and passenger. I can't find anything to support or deny doing this, apart from just don't ground the speaker (which is also what the sticker on the speaker cable says). Is there any harm in simply piggybacking a second speaker off the cable to the first one? Will this overload an amplifier or similar causing harm to the radio?

2) XTL5000 mid W3 HHCH
I am trying for dear life on an APCO25 system to make it listen only, however have found with the W3 head in CPS trunking personality> Transmit Mode the drop down option for Unlimited or TG/AG Disabled (per my setting on the 2500) is greyed out. If I change the control head setting to 05 the option returns, but as soon as I turn it back to W3 the option is greyed out. Is there a way on XTL5000 to disable transmit on P25 groups?
(before I cop the flame war I am licensed and authorised to TX on these groups, but would like to restrict this particular radio to listen only if possible)

Thanks in advance for any help to these 2 questions

I'm not a mobile install guy, so I will pass on #1, although I'll say it can't be more than a matter of making sure the radio sees the resistance on the audio circuit it expects to see. You can head over to the XTL 2500 Service Manuals thread. Indeed, the audio output parameters are listed in the Basic Service Manual.

As for #2, take a look at the help file for the Transmit Mode feature. It explains that this feature is "Accessed Only... When the portable radio is one of the following: XTS1500, XTS2500,.. etc, etc." Seems to be strange artificial limitation there. It isn't clear why Motorola thinks this feature should not be available in mobile. Someone smarter than me probably has a good idea why, though...

thanks for the reply.

I did check out the help file but didn't clue onto the key word PORTABLE. Funny though how the XTL2500 is a dash mount and can be switched to listen only, but the 5000 with a W3 cant be (but it can be if its switched to a dash mount as well)

No big deal if it can't be done, but if someone does have a solution that would be fantastic.

1) I've done this before, and over 20' as well. Seemed to work okay with the Astro Spectra but I wasn't going to be to upset if it blew up either.
