Looking for some help in programming a XTL5000 consolette.
The service manual says to use cable 3084565T01.
MOL says the cable is cancelled.
I though I would try using a HKN6155B ASSY,CABLE,CH PROGRAMMING,AS,RS232.
When I inserted the cable into the radio the radio would transmit.
I am guessing it will not work.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for a cable that will work.
Thank you in advance,
Bob

HKN6160A... plugged directly into the brick's rear connector. And it's a serial cable.

Bobby, the AS+ cable works, it just must be plugged into the radio brick keyload port, not the control head mic jack.

Magnus,
Thank you!
I normally go to the service manual where it list the Recommended Test Equipment and Service Aids get the cable number and go.
I found the programming info in the manual under 2.13.1 Codeplug Programming and it does list that cable.

Ok so let me confirm something. I to was told that the HKN6155B HKN6155 - Motorola ASTRO SPECTRA PLUS Programming / Flash Cable RS232 - XTL5000 W-Head could be used to program a XTL5000 DeskTrac with a W7 control head (L20QSS9PW1AN) via the front microphone connector is this correct or not?

Per the service book

To configure the codeplug of the ASTRO Digital XTL 5000 Consolette using ASTRO 25 Mobile CPS
(RVN4185_), the XTL 5000 transceiver must be connected directly to the PC. The PC must be
connected directly to the 26-pin accessory connector on the XTL 5000 transceiver using either a
USB (HKN6163_) or RS232 (HKN6160_) mobile data cable, and not to the accessory connectors on
the rear panel of the consolette. The HKN6155 cable can also be used. Connection is via the
connector on the front of the XTL 5000 but not via the Control Head.
Therefore, the first step in
programming the codeplug of the Consolette is to remove the top cover. see ”4.4. Disassembly and
Reassembly” on page 4-2 for cover removal and replacement instructions.

To quote an earlier post " Magnus - Bobby, the AS+ cable works, it just must be plugged into the radio brick keyload port, not the control head mic jack."

+ 1. I have a bunch of these that have been through rebanding and system change. AS+ cable to the front port on the brick only. Worked every time for me. I suggest using a computer with either a real serial port or a known good (recommended from here....) USB adaptor. I use a Dell legacy dock on mine that gives me a default COM 1 port.
