I have a mid power XTL5000 and am working to interface a VRS750 to it. The radio has an O5 head on it. According to the basic service manual (http://communications.support/threads/149-XTL5000-Detailed-Basic-Service-Manuals) I need to adjust a TIB jumper for pin 12 on the J600 accessory connector. Has anyone performed this and would they be able to assist me in identifying the jumper on the TIB?

Why do you feel the jumper needs to be changed in the first place? Is something not working? I don't see any reason why the jumper needs to be changed.

When I plug the VRS in the radio shuts off shortly afterwards as soon as I disconnect the VRS the radio powers up again. I have verified the cable matches the pin-out in the service manual for the VRS750 and checked all connections on the board in the VRS. The only thing I haven't done is adjust the jumpers per the XTL5000 manual. The only other thing I can think of is, is there a different VRS cable for O series heads versus the W series heads. I have used the VRS on the same brick with a W series had and had no issues.

I don't see why that particular pin would cause that issue. What is the history of the tib? Have you tried it with a siren amp perhaps to see if it properly works?

Can you tell if any mods have been done to the tib?

You may also want to look at the detailed service manual. That lists all the jumpers on the tib and if they are placed or not. The dsm also has the layout of the tib and you can search the jumpers on there to see if any were messed with.

I had a VRS on my O5 mid power remote mount XTL5K and never had to change any jumpers.

I had a siren/pa as well so my cable went from that box to the VRS. The siren/pa interfaced to the front DB25 connector on the TIB.

Did you make any headway?

A little, I had some time to play around with things and I suspect it is a grounding issue of some kind... I redid the ground on the XTL brick as well as took a look at the voltage regulator on the VRS since another post (http://communications.support/threads/6765-5000-VHF-AND-VRS750-UHF?highlight=vrs750) had similar issues. I have a feeling that poster and I bought from the same ebay seller. I put a rubber washer under the voltage regulator even though the heat sink pad was still there and I left the screw out to test things. Now when I plug the VRS in the radio see's it but continues to turn off and on every couple of seconds. If I take the VRS out of the metal housing and hook it up to the XTL brick un-housed everything works fine. I just can't figure out where the VRS is shorting out in the housing. Looking at the VRS detailed service manual and pictures of other VRS units that are complete I don't see any glaring issues.

Just an update I was never able to discover what the issue was with the VRS but the seller swapped the unit for another one which worked perfectly when it was plugged in. Thanks everyone who offered assistance, especially before I made a possible bad move and messed around with the TIB jumpers.
