I have a 800Mhz XTL5000 that I think is setup as a motorcycle radio because the high power setting in CPS will only allow you to go up to 17.5 watts. Is there a way to convert the radio so that it puts out a full 35 watts or is the hardware different?

Thanks,

Bill

AFAIK, the hardware is different. The manufacturer of the motor units, mostly BMW won't certify for use any radio that exceeds the 15-18w RF spec for use on their bikes, claiming it interferes with the electronic engine controls. I have never personally had an issue, but mostly out here in Nevada, everyone runs Harleys except NHP. On my Harley I ran a 50w radio and never had an issue.

I would have to check the manual but I believe the PA is different. The manuals are in the manuals section available for download. (hint)

Learned something new, I thought it was for RF exposure limits. We use Harleys that vibrate things to death, and have nothing but problems with the batteries in the trunk. Road Kings are nice bikes though.

If they could just make a Harley that you could ride until it ran out of fuel instead of until you ran out of butt padding....
