If posting about a radio issue: Include the HOST, DSP and UCM/secure firmware versions, flashcode and CPS version you're using along with the operating system info. This is critical information.
All XTL5000s can support any head, simply read the radio, change the head type to the new head type, write the radio, power down, replace the old head hardware with the new correct type head hardware and power the radio back up. Done.
The AS+ only supports the W-series heads, but as far as being able to change them at will, I'm not sure. Being kind of rare, I have never tried changing an AS+ head on the fly, I always just kind of assumed it was embedded similarly to the regular AS. But, maybe it's not, now that you mention it - perhaps someone who had tried can comment.
