I have used both the wideband vhf whip and the stubby on my xts5000, and there's a considerable difference between the two. Our fire service previously used the mts2000 with the wideband whips and the coverage was pretty good. To me, bigger is better :)

When i am at home i use stubby VHF antenna for my police, sheriffs frequency's But when i leave the house i have my 8" wideband antenna on my Astro Saber. I love the audio on the wideband antenna the Stubby works good in my city but i like to talk on a few Repeaters that are hard to hit on the Stubby antenna so the wideband goes with me
