XTS4000 has an issue with distinguishing between encrypted and clear transmissions in both Mixed Mode & ASTRO on a Conventional Personality. This results in the annoying 'garbled noise' RX when an encrypted transmission is received instead of muted audio on encrypted RX. Astro clear & Analog RX is working as per normal.

It appears to be a similar issue to that of tuckerm in http://communications.support/threads/8834-XTL-Mute-Encryption?highlight=encryption+mute

  • RX Mute Delay: 1ms
  • RX Voice Type: Mixed Mode
  • RX Unmute/Mute Type: And Unmute, or Mute (also tried) And Unmute, Std Mute (also tried) Standard
  • ASTRO Tab RX Unmute Rule: Normal Squelch (also tried) Digital CSQ
  • NAC: F7E 'Wildcard' (unfortunately have no idea what the true NAC of RX I'm monitoring.)

XTS4000 has the Hub Defeats PL Field blanked out, due to model.

Any suggestions about how to mute the ASTRO encrypted RX and to allow the the ASTRO clear & Analog RX will be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Looking at two different firmware versions on two different radios, comparing to another then yours, I noticed one radio having the same issue before didn't have a pl in the problem mixed mode channel. Does you have pl's on the channel or channels? The NAC I have are same F7E and some actual NAC. However I'm leaning toward more Selective squelch in your astro tab. Have you tried selective squelch?

I currently have the RX Only personality as CSQ as I am attempting to RX scan only the Voice Channels on a trunking network.

Will attempt Selective Squelch under ASTRO tab and get back with results.

Cheers :)

I wasn't aware R05.07.17 was out. R05.07.15 was supposedly the last version. Is there something newer, or did you make a typo?

You are absolutely correct Mars, it is UCM:R05.07.15 my apologies for the typo.

Hi ptolemy9200,

Thanks for your suggestions.

There are no PLs that I am aware of, because I am trying to RX only the voice channels of a trunking network. I tried to PL scan the voice channels and the PL scan just kept cycling.

I've tried under ASTRO Tab - RX Unmute Rule: Selective, but to no avail, it still has the 'garbled noises' with the encrypted RX.

I didn't know it was a trunk system until you mentioned. I'm not sure about the f7e. I have had both occur using a actual nac and the f7e. I believe it's a setting in the astro somewhere as I had the issue before conventional wise but not in a trunk system. I'll have to compare 2 codeplugs thoroughly later tonight. One still does it other does not in conventional. I do know the one did not have the issue until I updated the firmware to latest. I'm sure it's a setting somewhere as another same firmware doesn't do unmute on encryption. I recall I had changed to selective and it stopped. I'll just have to look more closely and let you know. I'll check the trunking side also see if I can reproduce the issue.

Thanks again for the update.

Yes, I am trying to RX only the voice frequencies of a trunking network which is a mixed mode trunking network.

I've assigned each individual voice frequency to it's own Conventional Personality, as per previously outlined configurations, which have then been set to a Conventional scan list.

Look forward to hearing how you go with your test.

Not sure if it is of any assistance the network is a SmartZone which allows both Analog/Digital (C4FM).

Hmmm, I cannot find the post now. But if memory serves me (probably not) that some changes would not take effect if RX only was checked, after radio was working RX only was rechecked.
If you have RX only checked, try unchecking RX only and then make changes.

I am shooting from the hip here. If someone remembers that post please correct me.
