XTS5000 Faulty Channel Selector Knob Functionality

Hello,

I have recently come across an issue with a XTS5000 with an unusual issue regarding it's channel selector knob.

Regardless of what ZONE or CHANNEL you are currently on, when you move the channel selector knob, it chooses the appropriate channel number of the first zone only. This is instead of altering the channel in the current zone. For example, If you are in zone 3 and you select position 2 on the knob, it will choose channel 2 in zone 1

I have checked that the knob setting is set for channel (ie not 'zone', however the same issue occurs regardless). The knob itself works without fault.

The radio is a XTS5000 model 3 with FPP. (I understand that FPP can sometimes cause some interesting abnormalities).

HOST 14.00.01. DSP 14.00.00. Programmed with CPS 19.01.00. Flash: 5A9008-101F87-7

I am hopeful that this is a CPS programming issue buried deep, however, I have tried altering most settings without resolve. Is this a FW issue?

Many thanks in advance.

How many zones and personalities does the radio currently have?

You SHOULD have personalities numbered 1 to 240 and they SHOULD be assigned in sequential order to Zones 1 thru 15. If that is NOT what you have, your codeplug will not run reliably (or at all).

DELETE all the zones and personalities and recreate them making sure to populate each channel and zone with the correct channel sequence.

Before you do a mass reprogramming of your radio, you should put the radio into the button/switch test mode & ensure both the a-b-c switch and channel selector switch show proper operation. I'm not at work & it's been a while, but I believe you do this by entering test mode the usual way, and then pushing the orange emerg button to enter into the button test mode...might be the purple button...anyway, try it out. Each button press or switch position should show a unique code on the screen. If you don't see a code change, or see duplicate codes, you have a switch issue.

Sometimes you forget the basics. I always ASS-U-ME that someone has already done that....

If some dummy enabled OTACR/OTACS you will see that kind of behavior. Check under Conventional-->Astro Systems-->Astro Configuration, and if you see a box labeled "OTACR/OTACS Feature" checked go ahead and uncheck it.

Thank you very much for your help with this.

I did the usual fault finding using test mode and functions worked as expected.

Being a FPP radio, given I had deleted some of the FPP personalities and zones, I thought this would surely be the issue as suggested. (thankfully the codeplug works perfectly other than the identified issue).

However... The remedy was exactly as Motorola_otaku identified. Someone had selected both OTACR & OTACS. I simply unselected them and the channel knob worked as desired.

I would have never have through to look at that as I presumed this issue would be a radio wide setting rather than something found further down the configuration.

Many thanks again- I appreciate it.

Yeah, anyone who's ever played around with LA_ROVER.S knows that particular issue.

Over-The-Air Channel Reassignment/Steering was an early attempt at conventional dynamic regrouping using Astro data. No system that I'm aware of ever used it (and you can't do it radio-to-radio) so it's a pointless feature to have in modern equipment. Amazingly the APX radios still support it.
