Hello all,

The radio is new to me and looks like new as well. I’m having some difficulty in programming. When reading and writing the radio something is making it extremely slow. It will take 4 minutes to read 5 minutes to write back to the radio, I’m running windows 10 and running the cps in compatibility mode for windows 8. If I run it NOT in compatibility mode the cps will become un responsive for a while then continue and finish. I’ve experimented with baud rate of 4,800 9,600, 14,400 and 115,200 it doesn’t appear to change anything. I'm using a Blue Max FTDI usb cable, The lights on the cable flash fast up until about 2/3 of the way across the progress bar then becomes very slow. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Model H18QDH9PW7AN
CSP 20.01.00
Code plug 0024
Firmware R16.00.02
DSP R16.00.02
Flash code 5A0401-001307-1

Is FPP enabled with 255 channels?

You don't need to run CPS in compatibility mode under Windows 10 or need to experiment with baud rates so I'm suspecting your aftermarket cable.

A firmware update wouldn't hurt either. That's pretty old firmware for that radio and CPS version.

Thanks for the fast response.

Yes, FPP is enabled.

I'll update the firmware and see what happens.

FPP slows reading and writing particularly if all zones and channels are FPP. That could be part of your problem. One FPP zone of 16 channels should be sufficient unless you really, really need to be able to edit every channel in your radio.

OK, Thanks for that tip. I'll try 1 zone for FPP.
Thanks

I feel like I am missing something now! I haven't played with XTS FPP much - but the couple of times I have I thought those first 15-16 zones in the default codeplug with FPP enabled were stuck there! I tried removing them and always had issues. You're telling me you can trim it down??

Yes, that and the first 16 zones are slaved to individual personalities. I'd REALLY like to get rid of some/all of those if I can. Do tell...

You have to remove the zones one at a time starting with the last zone and work your way down.

Looks like I will be trying this today - I might have been doing something wrong the last time I attempted it but now have an XTS2500 here as my guinea pig.

Deleting FPP will delete the zone. If you add a zone back you will have to number the personality appropriately. It made a huge difference in read/write speed.

When FPP is initially added every zone is set to FPP and a different conventional personality is created for each channel in each FPP zone. Reading and writing can take a long time. To delete an FPP zone, go to the last FPP zone in the list and uncheck the FPP box. The zone will become a regular zone and the conventional personalities will be deleted. You can delete all FPP zones except the first.

Damn, works like a charm! I'd been told a long time ago that those 15 zones were left there - an artifact of having FPP on the radio above R09. Although I don't really use my 5K much any more I'm glad I can finally cut it down.

FPP on 2500s/5000s work the same way. One FPP zone should be all you need.
