I work for a small rural department that hot swaps radios.
In NC the local Emergency Management Coordinator is issued the county ASK, as well as radio IDs and aliases. Our EMC knows nothing about radios except how to use one, and cares not to learn any more. In an effort to save the county money on radio programming, they sent me to the state sponsored class and got a basic knowledge on how to program XTS/XTL/APX radios on the NC VIPER system. So whenever there are small changes that need to be made, I make them instead of paying $70 per radio to the local radio shop.
Like I said before, we hot-swap radios in my department, so when I saw the opportunity to purchase one for myself, I got the ok from my Sheriff and purchased it. I figured that once I got it programmed and found that it was a reliable radio to use on duty it would be better than using one that had been used continuously day-night for the last 2 years, and I would know the radio and battery as it would always be mine.
That being said, can anyone please give me some ideas why it will not affiliate with our system?
Thanks in advance
Frank
